Hiking in Eisacktal Valley

Exciting excursion on the Chestnut Trail

Escursions in Feldthurns mostly happen on the famous Chestnut Trail, which leads through the whole southern Eisacktal Valley and connects Brixen with Ritten Plateau.

The Chestnut Trail is a rewarding excursion tip for who like culinary thrills and easy tours.

A very recommendable track is the one from Feldthurns to Säben monastery in Klausen: you will pass ancient chestnut-forests, lovely farms and you will see the amazing Säben monastery, an absolutely worth seeing sight in South Tyrol.

The excursion

Starting point is the Wöhrmann Inn near Feldthurns. Take path 11 and walk for 20 minutes until you reach Ziernfeld Residence. There you have to take path 12 on which you arrive at the center of Feldthurns. Pass the small churches Laurentius and Antonius and walk on to the Radoarhof farm.
After a short ascension you reach the Moar zu Viersch Residence, a nice and recommendable location for harvest-parties. Continuing the excursion on path 12 you will pass the hamlet Huber in Pardell where you have to take path 1 on which you come directly to the ancient Säben monastery. Visit it, you will be amazed by the historic and religious ambience.

After visiting the monastery walk to Klausen, a lovely city in Eisacktal Valley. Whit public transport you will get back to Feldthurns.

The entire excursion is 2 hours long and it’s easy.
