Hiking in the Dolomites

From Welsberg to Plätzwiese and to Mount Dürrenstein

In the surroundings of Welsberg and Taisten there are many rewarding mountains and panoramic points for excursionists. To excursionists who like easy excursions, panoramic views and romantic landscapes, we recommend to hike Mount Dürrenstein.

The excursion

From Welsberg you have to drive to Prags and finally to Plätzwiese-alpine pasture at 1993 m above sea level (start early in the morning the parking places are limited).
 
From the Plätzwiese Refuge you have to walk to Dürrenstein Refuge and then on path 33 to Southern slope of Mount Dürrenstein. Then take path 40 which leads you through lovely meadows and on the peak of Mount Dürrenstein (at 2893 m above sea level). The view over the mountain world around is breathtaking: Drei Zinnen, Monte Cristallo, Rotwand, Zillertal Alps…

The way back is the same as to get there. You will need about 5 hours and a half for the entire excursion in the Dolomites.
