Hiking in the Dolomites

Exploring the alpine-pasture of Sennes

The Pustertal Valley is a very advantageous hiking territory: 3 nature parks are bordering with the “green” valley and every one of them offers many hiking-possibilities. For instance the one to Sennes-alpine pasture.

The Sennes-alpine pasture is one of the biggest in South Tyrol (20 km²) and it is situated between Mount Seekofel and Mount Lavinores in the Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park.

The excursion

The excursion begins at Pederü Refuge 14 km distant from St. Vigil in Enneberg. At the billable parking place you have to take the ancient and very steep military road on the left side and follow it for about an hour. Arrived at a fork choose the signpost path to Sennes-alpine pasture. Cross a nice wood and the Col Ra Machina hill. Take the forest track and after a panoramic and short walk you arrive at the Sennes Refuge. There you enjoy a wonderful view over the entire Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park.

To turn back to Pederü Refuge take the same paths as to get there. For the whole excursion you need about 4 hours.
