Hiking in the Dolomites

From Pfalzen on Pfunders Long Distance Trail

The Pfunders Long Distance Trail is one of the most demanding long distance trails of South Tyrol and it connects Pfalzen in Pustertal Valley with the wild and untouched Pfunders Valley.

The excursion

For the strenuous excursion you need about 6 hours. Starting point is Platten near Pfalzen. Walk to the Tierstallerhof farm and follow path 66a to the border of the wood. On an ancient path and a small forest track you hike to Jägerhütte Refuge and taking path 66 you will reach Mount Sambock (2396 m above sea level).

On the peak of Mount Sambock begins the Pfunders Long Distance Trail (signpost: red circle with a white item). Take the long distance trail and walk to the North, climb low rocks and you reach an anticline. Walk on until you reach the peak-cross and after a while you will arrive at the second anticline of Pfunders Long Distance Trail. Continue the excursion on path 67 and walk back to Platten Lakes, to the Platten-alpine pastures and finally you will come back to the starting point.
