Hiking in the Dolomites

Panoramic excursion around Mount Kronplatz

In winter Mount Kronplatz is the number 1 skiing resort in South Tyrol.

In summer however the mountain in Pustertal Valley surprises with many excursions, with silent forests and with hundreds of cows, pasturing there, where sportsmen do ski in winter.

The excursion

The excursion begins at the Furkel Pass between Olang and Enneberg. Starting near the Furkelhaus Hotel, you have to take the country way to the southern hillside of Mount Kronplatz, until you reach a signpost. There you have to take the “Panoramaweg” path in Western direction to Graziani Refuge.

Walking in northern direction you will have a great view over Pustertal Valley and Tauferer Ahrntal Valley. The path becomes more and more steep and leads you to Kronplatz Refuge and afterwards to the peak of Mount Kronplatz, where a big bell is positioned. On the bell you see the names of the mountains around: Peitler Kofel, the mountains of Fanes and Sennes, the Marmolada Glacier, the mountains of Cortina-Dolomites and the peaks of Tauferer Ahrntal Valley and Zillertal Alps. Amazing!

To turn back to Furkel Pass you have to take path 3 (“Prackenweg”). The entire excursion lasts 4 hours.
