Hiking in the Dolomites

From Gais to Amaten

A recommendable family-excursion is the one from Gais in Pustertal Valley to Amaten, a small and lovely panoramic point above Bruneck. And during the excursion there is a lot to see: a mysterious castle, deep forests, the Dolomites peaks, the peaks of Rieserferner and the surroundings of the gorgeous medieval city of Bruneck.

The excursion

The hiking-tour begins in Gais and lasts 2 hours and a half. Taking path 2 you will get soon in the deep forest, passing some mountain farms situated in nice clearances. After an hour you reach Kehlburg Castle a mysterious ruin, which was nearly entirely destructed by a fire. The ruin cannot be visited.

Continue the excursion on path K and soon you will arrive at Amaten, whit its two gorgeous inns, where you can enjoy the specialties of the house, while the little ones enjoy themselves in the playground.

To return to Gais take path 5. It leads you to Aufhofen and then back to Gais.
