Chestnuts from South Tyrol
Chestnuts are a must in the autumn in South Tyrol and they are the main component of the harvest tradition Törggelen.
We walk on the streets of the city, with chestnuts in hand in paper bags, and they keep warm ours hands in the cold autumn afternoons. The best are undoubtedly roasted chestnuts!
Children go in the woods with their parents or friends, to collect chestnuts, playing among the cows, sheep and animals in farms. Since the month of September, everyone in South Tyrol go to cellars and restaurants to experience the most important tradition of the period: Törggelen with family and friends.
The harvest tradition "Törggelen" includes not only roasted chestnuts, but you can taste dishes with chestnut like creams, soups and desserts. Enjoy pleasant moments in autumn in South Tyrol in Meran, Eisacktal and Bozen and environs.
