Gore-Tex Transalpine Run

As a "normal" mountaineer and hiker you will stuck up your nose hearing about people who are running more than 290 km in 6 days to cross the Alps from the North to the South, managing mountains, passes and valleys.Fell runnings like the Gore-Tex Transalpine-Run are surely extreme and ask for long preparations. Only the fitness decides if a sportsman can make the run or run. 8 stages with more than 40 km distance and about 2000-2400 m difference in altitude per stage and are to manage during the Gore-Tex Transalpine-Run from 30th August til 6th September 2008. A special running-experience.
If you look at the distance profile, you will be happy like me, to not have to make this race. But the distance fascinate although. Maybe because record-breaking distances or maybe because of the great mountains the runners have to going through.
The 4th day brings the runners to South Tyrol, exactly to Prettau in Tauferer Ahrntal Valley. The fifth day the runners run to Luttach and then to Mt. Speikboden and down to Sand in Taufers. The 6th day-stage is very demanding: from Sand in Taufers the runners have to go to Rieserferner Refuge at 2900 m above sea level and then down 1500 m down to Antholz-Mittertal.
The day after is record-breaking: 2700 m difference in altitude are to manage during the stage from Antholz-Mittertal to Niederdorf. The last day ends after the probably most beautiful stage in Sexten in the Dolomites, passing by the mythic Drei Zinnen peaks. Amazing.
