Manifesta 7

Manifesta 7 this year in South Tyrol and Trentino

The Manifesta is besides the "documenta" in Kassel and the "biennale" in Venice the most important modern art-exhibition in Europe. The only difference is, that the Manifesta is a wander-biennale and takes place in another city every year.

This year the Manifesta will not be in a European city, but in a whole region. 2008 the region of South Tyrol and Trentino got the allowance for holding the Manifesta. The reasons are the extraordinary post-industrial heritage and the unique cultural-background of the region. The Manifesta takes place from 19th July till 2nd November 2008.

The exhibition will be held in Rovereto, Trento, Bozen and Franzensfeste. The first 2 cities are situated in Trentino, the second 2 in South Tyrol. All locations are historically relevant industrial-monuments: the Ex-Alpe and E-Peterlini-buildings in Rovereto, the Postoffice in Trentino, the Ex-Alumix-building in Bozen and finally the great fort Franzensfeste in the homonymous village.

Beside of the exhibition the curators of Manifesta7 have also planned a wide supporting program in other places in South Tyrol and Trentino. It belongs to the philosophy of Manifesta to involve also the local, social and politic particularities of the exhibition-locations.
